Babysitter Arrested In Peoria For Leaving 6-Month Old Infant In A Locked Car
A babysitter from Peoria was charged Tuesday for leaving a 6-month old infant in a locked car for nearly two hours.
This is every parent’s nightmare. No parent wants to end up with a babysitter who could do such a thing. How could a babysitter, in her right mind, leave an infant alone in a locked car?
The news is mind-boggling and it’s hard to believe it could still happen these days. Sad to say, it still happens. According to Mdjonline.com;
The incident took place about mid-morning in the parking lot of a medical building at 4911 N. Executive Drive, according to a Peoria police report.
It took a construction worker to notice that there was an unattended infant in the locked car. The infant was crying inside a Ford Taurus when the construction worker started to take notice. When a police officer came to the scene, he looked inside the car and saw the infant in a car seat.

The police officer was able to locate the babysitter inside the medical office. She had taken one child with her and left the sleeping infant alone in the locked car. When asked why she left the infant inside the locked car, her reply was unbelievable.
Inside the medical office, police located the babysitter. When asked why she left the child in the vehicle, she said he was asleep and she didn’t want him to awaken and cry.
It’s really hard to imagine how the babysitter could be so mindless. She would rather leave a sleeping infant alone in a locked car than have a crying infant with her. It’s really hard to fathom the kind of thinking the babysitter has. To make matters worse, it took an hour for her to check on the infant.
The mom of the kids was contacted by the police. Like any worried mom, she left work to get her kids right away.
The babysitter was taken the Peoria County Jail.

The babysitter was transported to Peoria County Jail, where she was booked on a charge of endangering the life or health of a child. It’s a first-offense misdemeanor, according to Illinois law.

On that same day the Peoria babysitter was charged for leaving a 6-month old infant unattended in a locked car, another babysitter from Milton was arrested for doing the same thing as well. The only difference was that the babysitter left the infant inside an unlocked car in a Walmart parking lot.

Georgetown police say a Milton woman was arrested this week after she left a baby alone in an unlocked car in a Walmart parking lot for at least 15 minutes.
According to the police, the babysitter was a 40-year old woman named Ofelia Velasquez Berduo. She was charged but was eventually released.
Berduo has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was released on her own recognizance after her arraignment.
It’s no doubt that the news on babysitters is downright horrifying. No parent should ever turn a blind eye on the possibility of hiring a babysitter similar to the ones in the news.

I can’t believe the sitter was charged and then eventually released. She should have at least been banned from babysitting after the incident. How could she have forgotten a helpless infant inside a car? I don’t get it and I hope I never get a sitter like her!
