A SAHM’s Dilemma: Hiring A Babysitter

sahm-dilemma-hiring-babysitter3
SAHMs need babysitters to help keep the family and themselves happy.

Cut them some slack. Stay-At-Home-Moms (SAHMs) aren’t exactly living the life. They don’t exactly sleep in and enjoy the rest of the day. Just like you, they have to get up early before everybody else does. They do the same thing you do in the morning to get everybody all set for the day.

The only difference is that they can move around in their bathrobe while you’re in your corporate suit. However, that doesn’t make a SAHM any different from you. Just like you, she has a hectic day ahead of her as well. The only difference is that she works at home while you work in an office.

A SAHM may get paid to work at home. After all, there are a lot of home-based jobs nowadays. Hence, SAHMs are now a lot more resourceful taking in a home-based job. This way, they can still attend to their domestic obligations and earn a living. Sounds perfect, right? Yes, it really is an ideal scenario.

She obviously stays home to work for a living and to work for free as a homemaker. Given that, do you think it’s okay for her to hire a babysitter?

🤔 What's The Real Scoop On Sittercity? This Is What We Found Out

While you are spending more hours in the corporate world, it’s understandable that you may not have enough time to attend to domestic duties. So you hire a babysitter, right? Since you want your kids to be safe, you hire only from the best, say like Sittercity, right? That’s okay. That’s totally understandable.

Back to the SAHM. She obviously stays home to work for a living and to work for free as a homemaker. Given that, do you think it’s okay for her to hire a babysitter?

Of course, it is! SAHMs need a babysitter from time to time and because of that, they also face the dilemma of hiring one.

Stop Raising Your Eyebrows

If you have just raised your eyebrows to express such condescending amazement on why SAHMs are faced with the dilemma of hiring a babysitter, stop right now. Stop raising your eyebrows at the thought of it.

There is nothing wrong with SAHMs facing the dilemma of hiring a babysitter. As a matter of fact, there is nothing wrong with SAHMs wanting or needing to hire a babysitter. As much as you need some help from a babysitter, so does a SAHM. So don’t bother to even to wonder about it.

A SAHM’s Dilemma For Finding A Babysitter

So just like you, SAHMs face the dilemma of finding a babysitter. However, you may not feel so guilty about finding a babysitter. After all, it’s not an option for you but a necessity.

That can possibly set you apart from a SAHM. While both of you are faced with the dilemma of finding a babysitter, the SAHM is faced with a greater dilemma of guilt. Why should they even hire a babysitter when they stay home all day?

It’s really weird. It’s as if SAHMs don’t have the privilege of hiring a babysitter because of the guilt. While that is absolutely ridiculous, there is some truth into it. Related Read: Save instantly with this promo code from Sittercity

🤔 Is Sittercity Right For You? Here's What Sittercity Isn't

Watch this video and take a look at what this SAHM has to say about the guilt of having to find someone else to watch her kid while she stays home to work.

I get a lot of guilty feeling like I’m sitting at home … to have somebody else watch my kids when, didn’t the whole reason I’m staying at home be so that I could watch my kids? But now I’m working at home and now, I need help…It’s a struggle. It really is and I just want you guys to know, first of all, you’re not alone … Second of all, you gotta have your time.

She adds an interesting point:

We can’t do it all and we don’t need to do it all … We really need that time to really work because the amount I can do in that three hours is probably the amount I get done in six hours, her being at home because of constant interruptions.

Pebbles goes on to explain the benefits of hiring a babysitter for the sake of both her child and her busy lifestyle by saying:

So just understand that you are benefiting, you and your child, by having that outlet, whether it be school, daycare, even a babysitter … I’m looking at hiring, like a high school girl to come over a few days a week to just like literally play with them all day, like go to the park and … do little science experiments and arts and crafts … because constant interruptions don’t give me the time I need to work.

It should really be illegal to feel guilty about hiring a babysitter. SAHMs deserve a break from all the housework to do other things.

  1. SAHMs deserve a break. 😊 They work all day long, seven days a week. With no pay! My wife is a SAHM and I make sure she hires a sitter once week so that she can have some time for herself, it’s the least I can for her since she does everything else at home.

  2. When I was pregnant, I had this weird notion that I could everything myself. I wanted to be the super hands-on mom. I said to myself, “There’s nothing to it. I can do it!” When my baby turned 5 months, I hired a babysitter. There was no way I was going to survive doing everything myself.

  3. I am a stay home mom as well but I don’t earn from home. With three kids, I can’t do anything else but take care of them. As it is, I need a sitter to help me out with the household chores. It would also be nice to do something on the side to earn some extra income but I can’t. Maybe if I hired a sitter, I can start something that can really help us out financially.
