  1. We just gave our son his first gadget. He is responsible for it. If he misplaces it, he is not getting a replacement. He has to learn how to take care of it.

  2. I do my best to talk to my son. When he doesn’t obey me, I level with him. I don’t raise my voice, I talk to him. It’s not easy but most of the time, it works.

  3. I have noticed that my son usually does what I tell him to do when my voice is a pitch lower. I always make sure I sound like I’m just talking to him, even at times when I want to scream and yell at him.

  4. It’s really challenging to teach my son to return things in proper places. There are times when he does but there are more times when he doesn’t. I need to remind him all the time.

  5. Right now, the only words my son knows is “NO”. He says “NO” to everything I say. But in spite of this, he still does what I say. I guess that’s the craziness that comes with parenthood.

  6. I’m still trying to train my son to do certain chores. I’m trying to be really patient but sometimes he makes so many excuses that he drives me nuts!

    We have a chore chart for our two kids. So aside from checking their homework at night, we see to it that they’ve accomplished their assigned chores. We’re hoping they become more responsible and accountable.

  9. I’ve color-coded my son’s closet so he knows where to stow all his clothes after they’ve all been washed. It’s working so far. He keeps his closet clean and takes this particular chore seriously.

  10. My kid is four years old and he makes his own bed. That’s the first thing he does when he gets up in the morning. I’m hoping this habit of his stays.

  11. Children learn faster when they see what they’re supposed to do. They are very visual and will emulate anything the grownups do. It’s best to do execute the rules. Merely telling kids what to do will only turn them off.

    1. I totally agree with you. If the kids see the opposite of what you tell them to do, they will ask too many questions. It’s never easy to conceal or make anything look right when, in fact, it is the opposite of what you have been telling them.

  12. Children really learn by example. If the words are not aligned with the actions, they will really question everything. We can’t expect the kids to do it right if we also can’t do it right.

  13. I totally agree with you! It takes a lot of patience to really train the kids to tidy up. Kids nowadays are very smart. They will question everything. If what we say is different from what we do, they will always have something to say about it.
